May Update - T1 Assembly, The Road to the Golden Sample and Next Steps
about 1 month ago – Fri, May 22, 2026 at 03:58:03 AM

Hello vabsRider Backers,

Welcome to your May backer update! We have some exciting physical progress to share as we move closer to volume production.

T1 Assembly at Whistle Design

In exciting news, all the T1 (Tooling 1) sample components have arrived at Whistle Design, and last week we assembled the core structure of the sample vabsRider.

Seeing the individually manufactured pieces finally come together into the physical product is a massive milestone. The build quality of these first off-tool parts is exactly what we have been working towards.

Expecting the Unexpected: Choosing "Great" Over "Good"

As we assembled the T1 sample, we knew it was very likely that we would have to make adjustments to some of the components. Through the quality control process we discovered we needed to make modifications to two moulds. We are satisfied that we identified these quickly, and that only two components needed to be reworked.

Working through these solutions, making the alterations and verifying the improvements has taken a little additional time, however overall this is an enviable result considering we are producing an entirely original product, with multiple moving parts.

These bumps in the road are precisely why we’re providing monthly Backer Updates on the manufacturing process. We know you are eager to get the vabsRider on your bike, and we are just as eager to get it to you, but we need to be absolutely satisfied with every aspect of the saddle's multiple components.

We want our 'Golden Sample' – the prototype for volume production – to be perfect. By taking this extra time to perfect the vabsRider, we can be confident that the bicycle saddle you receive will be worth the wait.

Important Housekeeping Information

If you need to update your shipping address or product selection, you can still do so. We will send an email before locking down this information.

Additionally, we will notify all our Kickstarter and BackerKit late-pledge backers before charging you for shipping, duties, and taxes. By processing these charges closer to the actual shipping date, we will be able to calculate the most accurate and competitive delivery rate for your specific location, rather than charging a flat fee.

In the meantime, we will continue to perfect the T1 sample and look forward to updating you on our progress again in June.

Safe Travels,

Robin J Macan & the vabsRider Team

Reminder! Complete your Backer Surveys
about 1 month ago – Mon, May 11, 2026 at 07:10:37 PM

Hi everyone!

As we move through the final stages of manufacturing, we are looking ahead to shipping your vabsRiders!

Our goal is to have all your shipping information locked in so that as soon as production is complete, we can send your order straight to you without any extra delays.

Eight Backer Surveys Still Incomplete

To date, eight of our backers haven’t completed their surveys. This means we are still missing their seat post size selections and/or shipping addresses. We want to ensure your vabsRider fits your bike perfectly and arrives safely, and we need those details to make it happen!

🛑  A Note for Apple "Hide My Email" Users

We’ve noticed some missing surveys belong to backers who signed up using Apple’s "Hide My Email" feature.

If that’s you, you will not have received our original backer survey, nor the reminders we’ve sent since. It also means we have no way to get in touch with you unless you contact us first from your regular email address.

How to complete your survey

If you haven’t finished your survey, can’t find your link, or are having trouble accessing your account, we are here to help!

Please email us directly at [email protected]. We can walk you through the process or complete your survey manually on your behalf.

Note: We will notify all our backers via email before we 'lock' shipping details, and you'll be able to make further changes to your address until that time.

We’re looking forward to getting these final details locked away so we're ready for shipping day!

Safe travels,

Robin Macan & the ataraxyBSC Team

vabsRider Update - Change to Production Timeline - April 2026
2 months ago – Wed, Apr 08, 2026 at 11:36:57 PM

Hi vabsRider Backers

We have an important update to our production schedule to share.

We have encountered a delay in our manufacturing timeline. As our partners Chain-Ray began deeply scrutinising the vabsRider’s component factory operations, they discovered a discrepancy between what one of these factories promised, and what they could deliver.

To protect the integrity of our product, we made the necessary but difficult decision to pull production from that facility and change suppliers. While this was the right choice for the vabsRider, the time spent with the initial factory is unfortunately time we cannot get back, which means we will not be shipping the vabsRider this month as planned.

While we understand this delay is not ideal, it is necessary to ensure the quality and longevity of the product that we ship to you.

The vabsRider is a highly complex piece of equipment comprising more than 25 custom-made components, and only a couple of off-the-shelf parts. Navigating this supplier change, along with our recent trip to Taipei to tour the component factories, has highlighted a core truth for our team: the assembly of the seat must be equal in precision to the manufacturing of the components themselves.

We have been diligent in identifying potential weak links to uphold the highest quality standards, using our factory visits to verify our partners’ solid capabilities and shared commitment to delivering the ultimate customer experience.

We are now implementing further rigorous quality control checkpoints at every stage of manufacturing to ensure our assembly procedures are flawlessly communicated and executed across the factory floors.

The manufacturing process is constantly evolving as we refine our own internal milestones for continuous quality checks and improvement, so we are not going to provide a revised shipping timeframe in this update. Instead, we will provide you with monthly Backer Updates as we progress through the next key manufacturing milestones.

Bringing the vabsRider to market is a huge undertaking and we are continually being tested by the complexities of the process. We appreciate your continued support, patience and understanding as we navigate these final stages of manufacturing.

Safe travels,

We're excited to let you know that our founder, Robin Macan, won the 'Inventor of the Year' award at the Victorian chapter of the Inventors Association of Australia (IAA) on December 3!

This award is a testament to Robin's hard work, tenacity and vision in bringing the vabsRider to life.

His name will now be added to the perpetual trophy — a true mark of inventive excellence. (We'll share some photos of that in the new year when he receives it.)

Thank you again to all the Kickstarter backers who have supported Robin in his inventor's journey so far.

Safe travels,

vabsRider Update: Revised Shipping Timeline
8 months ago – Sun, Oct 26, 2025 at 03:01:11 PM

Thank you for your patience as we work towards manufacturing our first batch of vabsRiders. Reimagining bike seat design – technology that hasn’t changed significantly since its invention more than 200 years ago – presents unique challenges, and we appreciate your understanding as we navigate these bumps in the road.

The product design process is a continuous cycle of testing and re-testing, and in our last update we mentioned that we were conducting final prototype testing. As we intensified our scrutiny of the design, we encountered an unexpected cyclic stress degradation. On investigation we determined that this required us to adjust the vabsRider design and remake specific components.

This has pushed back our manufacturing timeline, and we sincerely apologise for the delay. The good news is that identifying the issue before tooling prevented a major disruption to our overall manufacturing process.

We’re happy to report that testing of the revised prototype design yielded positive results, and we’re confident that the vabsRider will perform to the highest, and most robust, standards.

We're excited to let you know that we’re now proceeding with tooling in preparation for our first manufacturing run.

Under our revised production timeline, we now anticipate that shipping of our first batch of vabsRiders will take place in April 2026. Once tooling is complete and we’ve locked in manufacturing dates we will have a clearer idea of shipping dates, and we'll be in touch with another update.

We are working tirelessly every day with one goal: to deliver a bike seat that provides exceptional cycling comfort, is built to last, and will not become obsolete.  Thanks again for your patience.

Safe travels,
Robin Macan & the ataraxyBSC team.
